You Made A Bear

13 Jun

After reading Joe R.’s 100% justified anger about Logo’s whack-ass viewers’-choice list of the top 30 Buffy episodes of all time, I got to thinking about the general awesomeness of that show and decided to share one of my all-time favorite scenes.

Believe it or not, it’s from the S4 episode “Pangs” and it features Spike.

*SLICE!*

“Buh?”

“So your knife can kill you.”

“ROAAARRR”

“A BEAR”

You made a bear!

“I didn’t mean to!”

“UNDO IT! UNDO IT!”

HA! They ended up referring to this episode quite a bit in later seasons. Xander joking about the “funny syphilis” and that lyric in Anya’s song (“His penis got diseases from a Chumash tribe”) in “Once More with Feeling.”

Season 4 is much maligned, and often rightfully so, but in between the letdown of the Initiative stuff were some great moments and episodes.

All things considered, “Pangs” is pretty lacking, but this scene goes pretty far towards redeeming the whole episode. It’s really all about the stunt-double bearhug at the end… haaaa omg it’s killing me

I totally was not aware of that line from Once More – I’m gonna have to give that ep another viewing, it’s been too long.

I’ve been slowly working my way through the series again and am currently on S4. And yeah, it has its redeeming qualities, but as a season it really wasn’t great. Riley was just… such… a lame… character. The scenes where he and Buffy flirt are so cringey. Aag! I haven’t even gotten to Adam yet, but as I’ll never forget the boringness.

I just watched “Something Borrowed” and the fact that it’s on that top 30 list defies logic. However, next episode up is “Hush,” so there’s that!

I love that line! Delivered PERFECTLY!

There were some definite “huh?” moments while watching the countdown this weekend (yes, I own all the episodes, and yes, i will watch them when they are on tv… what of it?).

But, Something Blue has some seriously funny moments. (not enough to be #3 though)

“Can I be blind too?” Xander

🙂 My favorite episodes were mostly in the twenties… The Prom, (I tear up EVERY time they give her the Class Protector Award), Graduation Day Pt 2, Becoming Pt 2. Tabula Rasa should have been higher on the list. I am not surprised that OMWF and Hush topped the list – they always do. Always.
